Big Wave Beach…

A moment in our little blog’s history… Liz and Diana are writing a post together!
Ok we were invited by our friends Charlie and Sean to go onto a big yacht off on a whole day trip. We were going to a place off the coast of Sai Kung called ‘Big Wave Beach’. It is a tropical place that doesn’t look like any of the other beaches in Hong Kong…. pure white sands and clear blue waters!
Liz: The beginning of the weekend
Diana and I were going to have a ‘quite night’ on Friday which turned into a MASSIVE night out. We made friends with these two guys at the Hookah bar called Raj and Sanjay. They were reallllly nice! We went to some clubs and had some drinks… all of a sudden it was 5am and Diana and I were eating a kebab and fries on the side of a street. I yelled at some guy in French and then who do we see?… Raj and Sanjay! They offer to help us out and the story ends with me accidentally stealing Raj’s sunglasses and Diana and I carrying a massive suitcase of her stuff up 3 flights of stairs and bursting into the house in fits of laughter because we were so hammered. We had to wake up at 8am for this boat thrip the next day… the sun was already up…
Diana: The next day on the boat….
soooo lets seee the next day i wake up exactly at 9am which is basically the time we’re suppose to get there. Liz and I frantically throw on our swim suits and run down the hill to catch a cab who legit drag races us to the boat club. We get on the boat, of course im still hung over and so i decided to pour myself a rum and coke and AWAY WE GO. We started sailing to big wave beach dancing and singing on the boat, playing with the water hose and laying out to catch some morning sun. Close to a gorgeous beach we anchor the boat and everybody jumps off the side into the deep blue ocean. We all swim around for a bit to cool off and finally get back on the boat to eat some very yummie food. After lunch, we took the little motor boat to the beach where there was white sand and mountains surrounding us. We played in the water and threw the frisbee around. Our friend brian proceeded to get burnt and was at this point a bright red color. Poor guy took it like a champ but his whole body is probably pealing right now. We stopped playing on the beach and hiked to an amazing waterfall!!! It was indescribable. The waterfall was flowing into a little lagoon where you could climb up and jump off a 2-3story cliff. SO we decide to all jump off at the same time and make a little moment out of the whole experience. It was then time to go home and we were all exhausted from the adventures we had throughout the day. The sun was now setting as we returned to Hong Kong and everyone was quit just taking in the scenery and realizing that most of us would never be here or see this again…

8.) Personal space
9.) Mac & Cheese as a main part of my diet
10.) Being able to try on clothes before I buy them!

Ladies Market

OMGosh ok I(diana) have been to the ladies market twice and my 1st experience was VERRRY overwhelming! Soo many knock offs just rows and rows of purses, shirts, shoes, jeans, hats, belts, wallets, and the list goes on. Lizz and I finally found our way to some true religion jeans I really wanted and after being grabbed, chased down, yelled at and bargained with we decided on a price. BTW when white people or (big fish) go into these markets we are totally targeted to get screwed over! im sure even after the HUGE scene i created I still managed to pay wayy too much. AND one of the jeans didnt fit me… that led into my 2nd experience at the ladies market. This time i knew what i was getting myself into and I was able to trade my sucky true religion jeans for an amazing really hot white pair. THEN omg on temple street lizzz made me eat outside at this lil hole in the wall restaurant. OF COURSE HK it started raining and the women began yelling at us in chinese and took our plates… it was really frustrating. They moved us to a covered table where a man was already eating his food… awckward… but whatever we sat down. UMMM then the guy (i had to sit next to, liz conveniently sat across the table) started spitting up his meal which was like rice, chicken, and oysters or something. SO lets recap! at this point we’re in a crowded market, its raining, we’re being yelled at in chinese, and there is a chinese man spitting up in the seat next to me. WOW lol i cant even tell you…… OMG. But after THAT little escapade, the rest of the night went smoothly. We bought polo shirts, shot glasses, and an amazing painting.

Beer Fest 2009 !!!

Diana and I had been looking forward to this all week- BEER FEST 2009 in our favorite place, Lan Kwai Fong! We made it through the work week and even stayed in her apartment and had a drink on the rooftop instead of painting the town red like we usually do every Friday night!
Saturday day we went to the Jade market with Julie to get some good deals and I bought some more presents for my mum and sister. Sidenote- Julie (my boss) is the best barginer known to man and will make sure you don’t get ripped off when striking up a deal with chinese vendors. We all grabbed an ice cream from McDonalds and then Diana and I went back to her apartment in the early afternoon to get ready for the beer fest activities!
As soon as we walked into her apartment it started to MONSOON outside! There was a T-3 Typhoon warning… this was not good news. We got ready and waited for the rain to clear up a little bit before we made it out. FINALLY we got to Lan Kwai Fong and we were told that they were about to close Beer Fest because there was a typhoon headed our way! Luckily 30 minutes later they decided to keep the festival going and everyone got into full swing!
Within 10 minutes Diana and I had acquired brightly colored beads and a ‘yard o’ beer’ that had a ‘hands free lanyard’ that hung perfectly around your neck. It was great! We walked around all the booths and took loads of pictures! Oh and what type of beer did we have? Carona and lime! As distasteful as this may be at a Beer Fest… it is our favorite beer and we wouldn’t have had it any other way!
The streets got more and more crowded as the sun went down! They had a stage set up and there were bands singing and a huge crowd had started to form there. Just as we made it near the stage they announced a contest! Diana didn’t hesitate to enter us immediately and of course I went along with her and two other girls. I get on stage and there is a little burger and a bottle of tobasco sauce sitting on the table infront of us. I turned to give Diana the most hateful look of my life as I had just realized we had been entered into the tobasco burger eating competition… oh god. Read… Set… GO! I was two bites in and my mouth was on FIRE- then they announced the girl on the end had already WON! I got down and immediately ran to hold a damp paper towel on my face because it was BURNING from the tobasco sauce!
The night went on and we met lots of really fun people! We got there at 4pm and didn’t leave until 4am. OH and somewhere in all the festivities I was entered into a drinking competition… I went BACK on stage and they asked where I was from- I proudly announced TEXASSSSS! The crowd screamed in excitement and I took my place with three other girls in front of pint of Carlsburg! I was so excited! 1…2…3….GO! I smoked everyone! They had no chance! I got so excited and was congratulated by everyone when I made it off the stage! I won a Carlsburg polo (which is actually really cute!) and proceeded to tell EVERYONE that I met after that how I had won the Beer Fest drinking competition…
One kebab, countless beers and 120 pictures later we were walking home from the MTR station. And no… we didn’t ride the subway home, we accidentally told the cab driver to go to the Wan Chi MTR station and then proceeded to walk home from there. But Diana wouldn’t know because she couldn’t remember. She also doesn’t remember getting really upset when she got home and found out her Philippe had given away her chocolate to the woman he had over- and she doesn’t remember making Philippe promise to go running with her the next day before coming to pass out in her room where I was already sleeping like a baby. Picture evidence and everything I left out (Diana will cover that) to follow….

So it was Thursday- lunch time! I was invited to go to lunch with my bosses and their kids, who are so lovely, and we all set out from the office to go to a local place. It wasn’t a far walk and it was a beautiful day! I was strolling along chatting to the children when I noticed something unusual on the ground… I looked closely and realized it was a CHICKENS FOOT. I almost threw up right then and there! The kids thought it was hilarious… I was not amused. Nevertheless I needed a picture as proof and so here you go:

Quiz Night!- “the canadians in the corner”

Ok so I took DIana to her very first quiz night in Hong Kong. We were at a local bar that we ALWAYS go to on Monday nights for pub quiz! We are such regulars that the owner, who does the announcements of the questions for quiz night, asked where we were last week! Turns out he thought we were all TEACHERS and CANADIAN! He kept referring to us as the “canadians in the corner!” Oh and for those of you who don’t know what quiz night is… it is heaps of fun… you have categories such as- they will play a part of a song and you need to say what movie it is from or they give you a sheet of paper with characters of famous people on it and you have to name them – current events- sports- lots of different categories and if you win a category your table gets a round of drinks and the winners of the whole thing get a prize as well! It is just an excuse to have a drink with friends after work –but we always get rowdy and have a good time!
So our team name was Team Schmammered- chosen by me, Diana and Victoria. We did not win ANY category but we were really close on one… we just legit forgot to answer a question and if we had we would have won that section b/c we knew the answer! Oh well – we had an absolute blast and now Diana now knows that amazingness that is monday night pub quiz at Carnegies.
